The most expensive component in any test cell facility is not the test equipment, it is not even the actual cell. Over only a few years, the most expensive piece of the cost equation is labour. New European Drive Cycles and the like require great skill and dexterity from drivers to ensure that all the technical sophistication of the test cells, dilution tunnels and analysers is not thrown away because drive cycles are not driven reproducibly. DREAMS is a robotic driving system that represents a new approach to drive cycle performance. DREAMS is based on an anthropomorphic robotic arm with six degrees of freedom that manages gear changes, acceleration and braking. Once programmed drive cycles can be repeated within extremely high tolerances- over and over and over again! When you have finished current testing on that make and model, DREAMS is easily moved to the next candidate vehicle and can drive test cycles on previously stored routines. DREAMS can even be configured to start the vehicle ignition sequence which means that test drive cycles across a wide range of climatic conditions can be fully automated - from start to finish, without a driver having to suffer under those same conditions. DREAMs operates down to -40 deg C and can be installed and configured in less than 5 minutes with a single operator.
