Ian worked in industrial toxicology for over 20 years. During that time he managed a team of technicians who were responsible for carrying out regulatory studies and for Eventually a natural inclination for selling led Ian to join a sales company based in Portishead, Bristol. There he was trained, coached and advised by some of the best people in the business and was able to apply his knowledge of science and technology knowledge across a much wider set of applications. Sales is really all about problem solving on behalf of your customer; no-one wants to spend money they don't have to, but sometimes they have a need to overcome, a problem to solve. That means that very often you and the customer have first of all to define just what the issues are! To do this well you just have to get better and better at communicating. All the very best Sales professionals are great communicators. Maybe this is what has scared some people away from developing better communication skills – especially presentation skills – because they have come to associate such skills with a glib sales patter! That really is such a shame but we can do something about it! Pushy Sales Guys go too far! If you think they are being pushy then they have got it wrong. The good ones remember what their first sales boss told them "You get two ears and one mouth – use them in the same proportions". Good presentations skills are part of this – listening as well as speaking is important, or you are doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. How will that get you your next job!
Ian is married to Frances and has two grown children (Maybe "descendants" is a better term?) who have long since flown the coop. We live down in Cornwall on the Roseland Peninsula, which may be one of the most beautiful places on earth. But, that doesn't stop us coming to the rescue! Send me an email and I will call you back to discuss your needs. Between us we still love travelling, and have been lucky enough to vacation in three of our Continents. |

developing novel technologies to mimic industrial exposure situations. Ian has presented many scientific papers at Conference, in the UK, in continental Europe and in North America. Ian has always thought that an important part of managing and working as part of a team is to make sure everyone gets the best out of themselves. That involves relevant professional development as a routine part of the mix. He also believes that if we have to spend so much of our lives at work then we all have a duty to make sure we enjoy it and that our colleagues enjoy working with us.
